Take Action: Pennsylvanians Spoke Out, Sen. Specter Listened

Pennsylvanians Spoke Out, Sen. Specter Listened

           Senator Specter, 8/14/2009

Senator Specter was recently asked if he would support an up-or-down vote in the Senate on the Employee Free Choice Act (in addition to climate change legislation and a public option health care plan). His reply? "Yes, no doubt about those three issues at all."

Over 100,000 Pennsylvanians have spoken out, urging Senator Specter to support the Employee Free Choice Act. By making it easier for workers to form unions, real labor law reform legislation like the Employee Free Choice Act will level the playing field and help ensure that the economy works for everyone again. Thank Senator Specter for listening to Pennsylvania's working families. And tell him to keep listening.

Thank you for listening to Pennsylvania working families

Dear Senator Specter,

On August 14, you said that there is "no doubt" you would join with the Senate Democratic majority and support holding an up-or-down vote on the Employee Free Choice Act (S. 560).

Thank you for listening to more than 100,000 Pennsylvanians who wrote, called, emailed, and signed petitions to you on this issue that is a critical part of Pennsylvania's economic future.

I urge you to work with your colleagues to ensure meaningful labor law reform passes the Senate in 2009. Meaningful reform means:

1. Workers who want a union must have a free choice and a fair path to form a union, free from intimidation.

2. There must be real penalties for employers who break the law.

3. Companies should not be able to engage in endless delays and stalling tactics to deny workers a collective bargaining agreement.

Please reply, confirming that you support cloture (an up or down vote) on the Employee Free Choice Act, and that you will work with your colleagues to pass meaningful labor law reform in 2009.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
