A perfect example of why the Employee Free Choice Act (S. 560, H.R. 1409) is so important is the struggle that Rite Aid workers are facing right now...

Rite Aid employees in Lancaster, CA, decided to form a union to improve working conditions, like sweltering heat in their warehouse. Instead, they faced a brutal anti-union campaign, illegal firings, and bad-faith bargaining from the company. If the Employee Free Choice Act were law today, Rite Aid would not have gotten away with it.

1. Rite Aid workers faced a two-year anti-union campaign of harassment and intimidation. The Employee Free Choice Act would help guarantee workers a free choice and a fair path to form a union, without fear of intimidation.

2. The National Labor Relations Board authorized complaints against Rite Aid for 49 violations of labor law. But Rite Aid was able to settle, faced little more than a slap on the wrist, and has even continued breaking the law! Under the Employee Free Choice Act, employers who break the law would face real penalties.

3. Rite Aid workers have been trying to negotiate a first contract since June 2008, but the company has been dragging its feet. The Employee Free Choice Act would prevent companies from engaging in endless delays and stall tactics to deny workers a collective bargaining agreement.

To revive the economy and rebuild the middle class in the long term, we need to empower workers like those at Rite Aid's Lancaster facility to bargain for better wages and benefits. Please help that happen by supporting the Employee Free Choice Act
