Dear Friend,

Dangerous working conditions.

Anti-union intimidation.

Don't let Giumarra Vineyards Corporation get away with it!

Tell Giumarra you won't stand for worker abuse. Post a comment on their website now!

Last week we shared some disturbing news about the treatment of farmworkers in California's grape fields.

Giumarra Vineyards Corporation has been abusing and mistreating its workers. If workers take time for water, shade, or breaks, they risk being fired.

You did your part – joining over 23,000 other activists from American Rights at Work, the United Farm Workers, and a coalition of workers' rights groups who signed our petition demanding better treatment for Giumarra's workers.

We'll be delivering the petition you signed to Giumarra next week, but to really drive the message home, we're doing something extra.

Can you take 1 minute and post a comment directly on Giumarra's website, demanding better treatment for California farmworkers?

It's easy to do. Just click on the link above and post a message like this (if you can put it into your own words, even better!):

As a consumer, I am astonished at the abuse and mistreatment of Giumarra farmworkers.

Giumarra has a history of intimidating and bullying workers, including unlawful interference in a union election, dangerous quotas that force workers to pick produce in triple-digit temperatures without water or shade breaks and more. At least two farm workers have died from heat-related causes while laboring in your fields.

Consumers of Giumarra and your new Nature's Partner label are watching. We demand you change your policies and begin treating the workers laboring in your fields with dignity and respect! It's time for your company to realize that you are not above the law.

Giumarra workers have faced unfathomable abuse in California's fields. Workers have been given insane quotas and been forced to "race" in 100-degree heat to see who picks the most produce. The "losers" are fired.

Workers who speak up against unfair working conditions have been given unpaid "time-outs" to shame them into silence.

And when workers tried to form a union to combat the abuse, Giumarra's president threatened to turn the next year's crop of grapes into juice or wine – a move that would require fewer workers and cost many their jobs.

Giumarra harvests almost 10% of U.S. grapes and like any major company is concerned about its bottom line. If enough consumers speak up, we can make real change for these workers.

Please help add to the growing pressure on Giumarra by posting a comment on their website today! It only takes a minute, but it can make big difference for California farmworkers.

Thanks for all that you do.

Sincerely,
Liz, Manny, Elizabeth B. and the American Rights at Work team
